Last fall, I was given a phone number of a mom with a moderate/ severely autistic six year old son who was the "expert" on everything autism- from the gluten free/ casien free diet, to ABA, to what therapists to use, ect. I called and talked to her one afternoon for about half and hour, and she gave me several contact names and mentioned an allergy therapy to me that could possible eliminate the need for the gluten free diet. Of course I started my research immediately, and it has led us to where we are today. The therapy is NAET (Nambudripad's Allergy Elimination Techniques). It is a holistic, alternative treatment that uses the combined disciplines of chiropractic, accupressure (not puncture), kinesiology and others. It was first discovered by Dr. Nambudripad and used to treat what we traditionally think of as allergies such as food allergies, seasonal allergies, etc. After some internet research, I purchased the book related to treating autism called "Say Goodby to Allergy Related Autism." Even after reading the book, I did not have a great understanding of what the treatments were, but I was willing to give it a try. I knew that the therapy practices were non-invasive, that they were not going to hurt the boys, and that the published results were phenomenal (up to 90% full recovery and 100% of autistic patients showing at least some improvement). When I called and talked to the doctor, I had a really good conversation, and I was willing to start treatments pending one "gut feeling." I was going to go meet the doctor since she practiced out of her home, and start treatments pending my first impression of her. I had decided that if she was a wierd old lady wearing a muu muu and crystals hanging all over her house that I would leave without treatments. But, if I felt comfortable with her, we were going to start both boys with NAET. I instantly felt at ease with Doctor Sue, and we have since become great friends. Chris and I had decided that we would give it a try and continue only if we saw noticeable results. The first 15 treatments are the foundation for all other treatments, and they are called "Basic Fifteen." We were going to give basic 15 a shot and then reassess.Hence the new blog...I am going to take you on our NAET journey for the past six months.Buckle up!More information about NAET can be found at www.naet.com
